Mendocino is a very special place located about half way between the Oregon Border and San Francisco.  It's one of  only a few Historical Preservation Districts in the state of California.  It sets on a peninsula at the mouth of Big River, one of the few natural running rivers left.  Its back is to the Redwoods and its front to the rugged Pacific Coast Line.  The architectural style of the town is characteristic of pre 1900 building designs that include many Victorians and Main St. America characteristics.

With beautiful scenery in every direction, Mendocino is a pedestrian scale town that offers a pleasant experience for the visitor.  There are many fine restaurants and galleries in the area.  There are plays, art schools, and sports of all types.

It's beauty has made it a back drop for dozens of movies and commercials.   Many films have been made here including East of Eden, Summer of 42, Overboard, The Russians are Coming, Cujo, Pontiac Moon, Karate Kid II, and many more.  Even cult grade B flicks like Dead and Buried, The Haunting, Humanoids from the Deep were done here on the Mendocino coast. TV fans will probably recognize Mendocino as the real Cabot Cove, the fictitious town where Murder She Wrote was filmed.
